Is mindful eating just another fad diet?

Mindfulness is having a moment right now but it’s more than just a trend.

It may sound a little fluffy but mindful eating is a game changer when it comes to improving your relationship with food.

I’ll be honest, it took me while to learn how to eat mindfully. Once I did, it was like I was eating for first time – I enjoyed food, ate less, and felt more energized and nourished after eating.

If you’re struggling with emotional eating, overeating, binge eating, or obsession with food and weight – mindful eating is the first step!

And here’s the good news: You’ve done it before, and you can do it again

We are all born mindful eaters.

Many of lose it over time and eating mindlessly becomes the norm for us, but we can get back there!

Here are some keys for how to eat mindfully:

  • Slow Down – Slow eating improves digestion, nutrient absorption, calorie burning capacity, and satisfaction
  • Engage all your senses! Look at it – it’s actually part of digestion! Smell it. Feel it. Taste it – identify flavors, textures. Listen to the sounds it makes when eating.
  • Savor the full experience of the meal! From the visuals, scents, feels, taste, chewing, swallowing. Pause, look around to savor the eating environment. Hopefully you’re in a nice, relaxed state – soak it up

Watch any kid eat and notice how he eats slowly, engages his senses, and savors the meal. This is where kids can be our role models for us.
